Two islands are artificial: Sacca Serenella and Sacca San Mattia. The centre is known worldwide for its centuries-old craft of producing <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vetro_di_Murano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Murano glass<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Burano:<\/strong><br \/>\nBurano (<i>Bur\u00e0n<\/i> in <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lingua_veneta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venetian<\/a>) is part of the municipality of <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Venezia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venice<\/a>, specifically the <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Municipalit%C3%A0_di_Venezia-Murano-Burano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">municipality of Venice-Murano-Burano<\/a>. It is connected by a bridge to the island of <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mazzorbo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mazzorbo<\/a>. The town is known for its typical brightly coloured houses and the centuries-old craft of <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Merletto_di_Burano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Burano lace-making<\/a>. Its gastronomic traditions are also notable; typical desserts include <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Bussolai&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bussolai<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Torcello:<\/strong><br \/>\nTorcello (<i>Torce\u0142o<\/i> in <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dialetto_veneziano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venetian dialect<\/a>) is an island in the northern <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laguna_Veneta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venetian Lagoon<\/a>. It was one of the oldest and most prosperous settlements in the lagoon until its decline following the rise of nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Venezia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venice<\/a> and changing environmental conditions. Today the island has just eleven residents, but its priceless archaeological heritage makes it a popular tourist destination.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Malamocco:<\/strong><br \/>\nMalamocco is one of the oldest settlements in the <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Laguna_di_Venezia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venetian Lagoon<\/a>, with roots dating back to <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Epoca_romana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roman times<\/a>. At that time it served as the port of <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Padova\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Padua<\/a>, directly connected via the mouth of the <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Medoacus_Maior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Medoacus Maior<\/i><\/a> (from which the name originates), now known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brenta_(fiume)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brenta<\/a>.
